The letter P and pumpkins
8 day fall theme
The letters P & p were introduced by Ms. Pointy Patches.  Her clothes are made from colorful patches.  The children decorated their own poiny patch to create a classroom patchwork design.  The children used pink and purple sticky tape to decorate the letters P & p.  Ask your child how they like the taste of sticky tape.  Plus, we made Ms. P. Puppets.
The children enjoyed the action songs: Pony...stop and go,  Shake a piece of Paper, This is the way we move around a pumpkin and more!  Plus, we painted paper bag pumpkins and carved a real pumpkin.

"Pumpkin, Pumpkin", By Jeanne Titherington was our featured Big Book on Pumpkins. This delightful book tells the story of growing a pumpkin.  The children were given the change to sample pumpkin seeds, too.   Other pumpkin themed books we read are:
"Growing Pumpkins", By Melvin Berger.  "The Runaway Pumpkin" By: Kevin Lewis, "All about Pumpkins",  By:  Zoe Hall, and the poem Five Little Pumpkins.

The Letter Ll and Leaves

This week, your child learned all about the letter Ll. They learned how to trace the letter Ll, say words that start with "L," and say the sound for "L." They also learned all about Ms. L, who loves to laugh, drink lemonade, practice writing the alphabet letters, and reads library books.

Also, your child learned about leaves this week. They started learning about the different colors, sizes, and shapes of leaves and what season the leaves fall in. They listened to different books about leaves, such as "Fall Leaves Fall" by Zoe Hall. One day, they did leaf rubbings!

This week was also "Fire Prevention Week" and your child took part in the school's second fire drill. They did a great job for their second time, even with the fire alarm going off for the first time!

Also, your child had their first experience in the school's computer lab on Monday. Every Monday, they will be learning about how to use a computer and will also have the opportunity to do different computer activities. On Monday, they did a color sorting activity on the computer.

Next week, your child is going to learn all about the letter Pp and they will also be learning about pumpkins.

Here are some pictures from Ms. Jasinski's class of the A.M. and P.M. groups doing their leaf rubbings:

The Letter Rr
Your child was introduced to Mr. R.  He likes to raise red roses on his farm and he wins
Rainbow Ribbons for his prize roses.  Your child listened to his song and story called,
"What is RED?" every day this week.  The children painted a red rose, practice making the
letters R r, painted a rainbow and made a Mr. R Puppet during the week.

The Rainbow Theme continued with the books:  "Planting a Rainbow" By Lois Ehlert (Milwaukee Author and illustrator,  and "The Rainbow"  by Felicia Law.  Ms. Law told how real rainbows are made and tells us that there is no pot of goal at the end of a rainbow.

Thank You to the Jefferson PTA and our Jefferson School Reading Specialist, Christie Kleinowski
for the book, "The ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad" for National Reading Day.

The Letter "R" week!

This week, your child learned all about Mr. R in 4K. They learned that he has rainbow hair and that he receives rainbow ribbons for taking good care of roses. Your child also had a good time doing colorful activities, such as using watercolors to paint a rainbow and using paint to paint roses.

On Thursday, your child took part in a special activity when some of the older students came and read to your child a book called "Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad." They enjoyed having a "big kid" come and read to them! :)

Next week, your child will be learning about Ms. L and they will take part in another fire drill on Monday for "Fire Prevention Week."

Have a great weekend!
